Saturday, 6:30. Twelve of your twenty-four lanes belong to a birthday party, a corporate group and a church youth night, all booked at different times by different people. The cosmic rate starts at 8. Someone just phoned to ask whether a lane is free at 7:15 for a family of five, and the answer is on a clipboard.
Bowling alley booking software should answer that call without a clipboard. VenueChief books each lane online by the hour, prices it the way you actually sell it, packages a party with a room and lanes, and holds lanes for your leagues and events. It does not run your scoring system, and we say so up front, because that is the first thing a bowling center asks.
Booking plan from $279 a month, published. Eight lanes is $391. A twenty-four lane center runs on the Platform plan at $1,139 a month, which has no cap on lanes.
Lanes are resources, and the price follows the clock
Each lane is a bookable unit under a lane type, with its own guest limit and an availability switch. A lane built for six bowlers will not accept a booking for ten, and the guest is told to book a second one.
Price the lane the way bowling is sold. Per hour is the usual way. Add rules by day, time of day, season and customer type, each with a priority: a cheap weekday afternoon, a standard evening, a weekend rate and cosmic night. Charge a base price that includes up to six people and a fee for each extra bowler, if that is your model. The What will this cost? preview shows the price for any day and time before a guest sees it, and the guest sees the same price at checkout.
When a lane is out of service, mark it unavailable with a reason and a return date. Online booking stops offering it the moment you do.
Birthday parties and group bookings
A party package can bundle a party room, lanes for the length you choose, and a food credit, each starting at its own time. Set a number of included guests, a price for each extra, a deposit and the waiver you want. Online, the guest chooses the package, the date and the headcount, and the page offers only times when the room and the lanes are free together. The deposit is a venue setting: a percentage the guest can pay now, with the balance due at arrival.
For a company event, staff create a private event in a single screen. The organizer gets one bill and a link to pay the balance online. Or each guest pays their own ticket when they join from a link. See our page on party booking software for the detail.
Gift cards sell online and can go in the same basket as a lane.
Send us your lane rates and party menu and we will build them live.
Holding lanes for leagues and events
League night is your steadiest income and your biggest scheduling constraint. Hold twelve lanes for the league's window and they come off sale. The hold can stop online booking, counter walk-ins or both, and a staff-only hold never appears on your website. Cancel the night and the lanes go back on sale in the same save.
Waivers, if you want them
Bowling often needs less paperwork than a trampoline court, but a youth night or a company event may want a signed waiver, and some centers want one for every party. Turn it on for a package or a lane type. Guests sign before arrival from the booking confirmation, a minor's link goes to a parent or guardian with no account, and the desk sees who has not signed at check-in. If you do not need waivers, turn them off and nothing is asked.
At the counter
On the Platform plan, walk-ins and the counter use the same checkout as online bookings, so a family of five who walk in and a family of five who booked on Tuesday appear on the same board. Kiosks let a guest check in by booking code, email or phone number. The Food & Beverage add-on runs the snack bar and tables.
A Saturday evening
At 6:30 the manager sees the board. Lanes 1 to 12 are claimed: the birthday party in the room and on lanes 1 to 4, the corporate group on 5 to 10, the youth night on 11 and 12. The family of five is offered 7:15 on lane 14, because it is free and the buffer after the previous game has ended. At 8:00 the cosmic rate takes over without anyone changing a price.
What VenueChief does not do for bowling
- No scoring. VenueChief does not connect to QubicaAMF, Brunswick or any other scoring system, and does not show scores or handicaps.
- No leagues. League standings in VenueChief are for karting. You can hold lanes for a league night, and the league runs in your scoring system.
- No shoe inventory. Shoe rental can be a product sold at the counter. There is no shoe-size tracking or return process.
- No lane control. VenueChief does not turn a lane on or off, or start the pinsetter.
- No arcade card or cashless wristband integration.
- No custom booking questions. The checkout has a free-text special requests box. It does not ask for the birthday child's name and age as separate fields.
- No listing on Reserve with Google or on marketplaces.
- Online booking lengths are 1, 1.5, 2, 3 and 4 hours.
If your scoring vendor offers its own online lane reservation, compare it. We would use the better tool for each job.
